Measuring Progress on Women’s Participation and Influence in Decision-Making in the SDGs

WIDE+ member, the UK based Gender and Development Network (GADN), has just published a new briefing paper: Measuring progress on women’s participation and influence in decision-making in the SDGs: Recommendations to the Inter-agency and Expert Group and UN Member States – available to download here.

This briefing paper sets GADN’s recommendations for global SDG indicators on women’s participation and leadership at all levels of decision-making (focusing on Target 5.5 of the Open Working Group proposals for SDGs). It recommends two global SDG indicators on women’s participation and leadership: a combination of one quantitative and one qualitative indicator, which includes a self reporting indicator on women leaders’ perceptions of the impact they are having on decision-making. The case is made that one quantitative indicator alone is not sufficient to measure the different aspects of this target.
