WEBINAR: On Dissent, Civil Courage, and Solidarity in Times of War: Anti-War Russian Feminists’ Reflections

14 May 2026
17:00 – 18:30 CET

The consequences of the war by the Russian government against Ukraine continue to shape lives, societies, and political realities across the region and in Russia as well. The impacts on women and marginalised genders are multifold, and at the same time, feminists are also at the forefront to promote peaceful practices and alternatives.

This webinar, organised by WIDE+, will focus on the feminist activism from the Russian anti-war movement. The speakers will share their personal perspectives on resistance, civic responsibility, and feminist solidarity in times of war. They will speak about their activism, the risks and challenges they face, and the forms of support and community that sustain their work.

This conversation invites reflection on dissent, courage, and the role of feminist networks in building cross-border solidarity during armed conflict. This webinar is organised as part of a second online series of WIDE ‘ Feminist Alternatives for Europe’s uncharted future’, focusing on Eastern Europe and Central Asia. This is the first in a series of three held in May and June, 2026

Women In Development Europe+, in short WIDE+, is a European feminist network of feminist activists and organisations, women’s rights advocates, gender specialists, migrant women associations, as well as other NGOs that promote intersectional feminisms.

Speakers:

Artemis
Decolonial feminist activist and researcher
Explores identity in Russia, focusing on ethnic and civic belonging, overlooked regional diversity, and the role of diaspora communities in resistance and visibility.

Natalia Baranova
Feminist activist, Visiting Fellow at the Centre for Women, Peace and Security (LSE)
