Website redesign – wideplus.org

Deadline: 22 April 2026

As part of ongoing communications and organisational development, WIDE+ is currently developing a new visual identity and communications strategy.

In this context, we are seeking a web designer/developer to redesign and restructure our website (www.wideplus.org), improve accessibility and navigation and support the inclusion of interactive elements such as forms for response.

Objective

The objective of this assignment is to design and develop a modern, accessible, and user-friendly website that reflects WIDE+’s new visual identity and its strategic communication objectives.

The redesigned website should:

  • Improve overall structure, usability and navigation
  • Increase accessibility of resources and content
  • Allow for integrating event management, such as a space for interaction (in particular for the upcoming Feminist Forum), or resource webpages with a different domain name, such as the integration of the WE-EMPOWER “Treasure Box”

About WIDE+

WIDE+ is a European network of feminist activists, scholars, and women’s rights organisations that reaches out to 400-500 associations, through its national membership-based networks and organisations across Europe.   Its formal membership includes 31 associations that are formally registered in European countries, of which 22 registered in 14 EU member states. There are 32 individual members. WIDE+ also brings together partner organisations and individuals in its working group – in particular the gender and migration working group – which accounts to 12-15 partner associations. It is part of several alliances as well as currently one consortium, leading to a broader reach to other civil society and institutions. It promotes women’s rights by analyzing the systemic causes of inequality and advocating for transformative change.

Scope of work

The selected contractor will be responsible for:

  • Redesigning the WIDE+ website in line with the new visual identity (in close collaboration with the Communications Officer) – click here to view the draft of the new visual identity. The final version can be expected in the coming weeks.
  • Supporting the refinement of the website structure and user journey (based on ongoing internal work).
  • Developing and implementing the website in WordPress.com
  • Integrating element-based modules that allow for integrating social media feeds, portals to events and other interactions
  • Ensuring the website is accessible, responsive, and user-friendly
  • Integrating existing content and resources in a clear and structured way
  • Optimize SEO, if possible

Note on the Feminist Forum portal:
At this stage, the portal is expected to be primarily informational. The focus is on a simple and effective solution. The website structure should allow for future development of more interactive features (e.g. submission forms, expanded content, multilingual functionality), without developing a fully-fledged platform at this stage.

Deliverables

  • Fully redesigned and functional website (WordPress – element-based)
  • Feminist Forum portal page designed and integrated, with flexibility for future expansion
  • Clear and user-friendly navigation structure
  • Basic documentation and/or training for website management
  • Handover of a website that is fully manageable by the Communications Officer

Requirements/profile

The contractor should:

  • Have demonstrated experience designing and developing websites for NGOs, networks or similar organisations
  • Be able to translate a visual identity into a coherent and engaging web design
  • Have strong experience with WordPress (preferably element-based builders)
  • Have experience with accessibility and user-centred design
  • Be able to work collaboratively and iteratively
  • Experience and affinity in promoting human and environmental rights, in particular with feminism and gender equality

Timeline

The assignment is expected to take place from end of April to May/June.
A more detailed timeline will be agreed upon with the selected contractor.

Additional information

  • The website architecture is currently under review and will be shared with the selected contractor. Our expectation is that the number of static pages will not increase substantially.
  • The work will be carried out in close collaboration with the WIDE+ Communications Officer
  • WIDE+ currently has some password-protected pages for members. As part of this redesign, we are reflecting on whether to:
    • Maintain this approach or develop a more structured members’ area
    • Introduce differentiated access (e.g. access to specific content depending on user roles)
  • The website has also been used to store internal documents (e.g. contracts, financial information). We are reflecting on whether this should remain part of the website or be managed through a separate solution (e.g. external drive or platform).
  • WIDE+ working groups currently use Trello boards for collaboration and internal workflows. Members, therefore, engage with a mix of tools (e.g. Trello and the website) to access information and resources.

We welcome the contractor’s advice on these aspects, including appropriate, secure, and proportionate solutions.
