WIDE+ provided evidence and recommendations to the online consultation for the EU Gender Equality Strategy 2026-2030, back in August 2025. The recommendations provide a good overview of some main gaps and urgent priorities for the upcoming strategy with its implementation.
We want to stress that promoting gender equality and protecting women’s rights is not something that is a distraction from EU’s economic agenda; to the contrary, we believe that it fully supports this agenda.
We are proposing concrete strategic action around ten overall recommendations:
- Keep previous agreed language on gender equality, LGBTQI rights and women’s rights in place.
- Introduce or strengthen institutional mechanism to monitor gender equality measures.
- Ensure adequate and sustainable financing for feminist, in particular women-led civil society.
- Promote the democratic participation of women from an intersectional approach.
- Develop an intersectional approach and incorporate it into law.
- Include measures to develop a gender equality approach in digital transformation.
- Advance an inclusive and gender-just green transition.
- Enable access for all women to health, including sexual and reproductive health and rights.
- Reducing socio-economic inequality through an intersectional approach.
- Promote peace processes, transnational solidarity, and prevention of violent conflict.
