European strategy and advocacy workshop with refugee and migrant women

Ending violence against refugee women and girls

“From words to action: #womensvoices call for European change”

 Introduction:

As a follow-up project to the “Movements, borders, rights? Feminist Perspectives on Global issues in Europe” conference on 24/25 October in Brussels; and to the EWL/WRC #womensvoices report with policy recommendations to promote the rights of women refugees and migrants, WIDE+ and EWL are organising a capacity building and strategizing event.

This gathering will build on the outcomes of the WIDE+ and EWL conference in Brussels, and will provide space for a dialogue and strategizing together in different forms of dynamic interaction. In the sessions different national women’s rights associations and federations, European women’s rights networks and several migrant/refugee associations as well as those that work with migrant and refugees take part. They come from numerous countries across Europe.

In this event WIDE+ is organizing on Monday afternoon the Open Space:

WIDEplus aims throughout this afternoon:

1) to facilitate (self-)organized refugee/migrant activists an open space to voice priority issues and concerns about women’s human rights in the process of migration, asylum seeking and integration in the host country;

2) to together develop strategies for protection and advocacy of migrant and refugee women’s rights and needs; and

3) to build alliances for joint actions and future co-operation.

WIDE+ hope as result of this meeting to strengthening of our ongoing efforts and work on the protection of women refugees and migrants, which will enable us to continue with a clear and collective agenda for policy change and with a stronger alliance in promoting the rights of gendered migrants/refugees into 2017.

The meeting will take place the 14th and 15th November at: Maison Amazon Rue du Meridien 10, 1210 Brussel, Belgium
