Project Innovative Solutions to Female Migrant rights: announcement in full

WIDE+ is very proud to launch its new project: “Strengthening Innovative Solutions to Protect Female Migrant and Refugee Rights”.

This project is an opportunity to share realities and strategies organized migrant women in Europe are dealing with, build stronger networks and create new knowledges.

The project is supported [in part] by a grant from the Foundation Open Society Institute in cooperation with the Human Rights Initiative of the Open Society Foundations.

Europe is going through several structural crises such as democratic deficit, economic uncertainty, ongoing precariousness of European residents, which have contributed to a climate of increased intolerance and xenophobia.

Furthermore, closing borders policies and the promotion of populist and nationalist speeches are increasing among populations and political parties.

In this context, migrant people have become even more vulnerable, especially for migrant women who face double discrimination of being women and migrant. Even more, migration and refugee policies are lacking gender sensitive approach, which doesn’t act in favour to improve the situation.

It is urgent for European feminists to embrace in solidarity with migrant women, asylum seekers, irregular migrant women and refugees in order to advocate for an indivisible protection of women’s rights and for gender equality. There is a need of a strong collective European coalition between groups of migrant women and refugee and other women’s rights association, to push for better migrant and refugee’s policies.

WIDE+ members, believe in the importance to contribute to a strong European feminist movement that includes also women refugee and migrants’ rights, and that is intersectional, based on equal partnerships between other women’s rights and female refugee and migrants groups and that is visible to policy makers and to a wider public. In order to do so we need to stimulate cross-national learning among women’s rights, women migrants and refugee’s associations.

This project will create spaces for sharing, learning and exchange expertise among migrant women’s organizations and feminist organizations, we aim at building a strong feminist thinking and a deeper understanding on the realities women’s rights among Europe.

More concretely, WIDE+ members and partners will hold 4 National workshops in Denmark, Serbia, Spain, and Sweden.
